Tilak Varma, the son of an electrician from Hyderabad, didn’t have many resources growing up, but he had one key asset: innate talent for batting. Discovered by a childhood coach while playing tennis ball cricket, Varma's potential was quickly recognized. He was taken under the coach's guidance and, as a teenager, would travel 40 kilometers for practice sessions at the Legala Cricket Academy, with his coach Salim Bayash funding the journey. This hard work paid off when the Mumbai Indians selected him during the 2022 IPL auctions. Though the 2022 season was disappointing for MI, with the team finishing at the bottom, Varma's individual performance stood out. He was the second-highest run scorer for MI, proving himself against some of the world’s best. He followed up with another solid season in 2023, earning his first T20I call-up for India in a series against the West Indies.
